Bud Fowler, born John W. Jackson, Jr., was the first professional Black baseball player, integrating baseball teams in state after state across the country. In August, 1894, Fowler broke his leg during a game. He spent his rehabilitation time joining with young Grant "Home Run" Johnson and a trio of white businessmen in Adrian to found the dominate Page Fence Giants, who won over 100 games each year from 1895 through 1898. Fowler's final team in organized baseball was the 1895 Lansing Senators, batting .331 in 31 games. In 1913, he died at age 55. 109 years later, Fowler was rightfully voted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in his hometown of Cooperstown, New York, honoring his talent and trailblazing legacy.
